For our ceremony we wanted to choose a location that would reflect our spirituality while also reflect our love of giving back to the community. The church at St. Once a former orphanage, St.

All proceeds from the church go to support their efforts. Lastly, we needed to secure a place for the reception. Here in Richmond, the James River flows aimlessly and effortlessly throughout the city. Nestled on the River, The Boathouse offered violet and pink sunsets, city skylines and river breezes. Finally our venues were done. Our wedding color palette reflects our personalities: Blush, burgundy, and champagne.

Evan opted for a custom made burgundy suit and I landed my ivory Casablanca dress from a boutique here in Richmond, Sealed with a Kiss Bridal. The bridesmaids wore blush with pops of burgundy detailed on lips, nails and bouquets. Similarly, the moms were champagne with pops of burgundy as well.

Now that we had our attire we had to ensure that we selected the right person to capture images and to tell our love story. We met with and interviewed with quite a few photographers and once we met Shannon we knew she would be perfect. She has exceeded every single expectation and worked seamlessly with our videographer Tristan Means.

I was lucky enough to work with my future sister-in-law, Tomeisha Dean. She worked as our day-of wedding coordinator and worked with us during the months leading up to the wedding to discuss our wedding details and ensure that everything flowed seamlessly. Dates with non-wedding talk and quality time with friends and family really helped to keep us grounded and sane throughout our wedding process.

Once our wedding day came, it was so AMAZING to see how everything came together and how our vision of a modern, urban, and intimate wedding came together! Girl walks into a local bar. Girl locks eyes with boy, who happens to be the DJ.

Because of this, we had a rocky first year.

I made the choice to fight for our relationship because I felt something in my heart that I never had before. Jasen accepted me for who I was. I rarely felt like I could be my true self in a relationship and, not only did he allow me to be open and honest, he brought out the best in me.

He continued to do this through the hard times. We laugh together. His energy lights up a room. We love to spend time with family and friends. Want proof? Because this ballroom fete is fit for royalty. Fall in love with it all in The Vault! I was very lucky to have an incredible team of vendors that helped to bring my dream together. As a wedding photographer, I knew my biggest decision would be my photographer.

I chose someone that I felt was extremely capable of seeing my wedding day the way I had envisioned it. My stationery designer worked with me to set the tone of my day with the perfect invitation suite. That helped to set the bar of elegance that we would carry throughout the wedding. That was important to me because I wanted my future children to have the opportunity to also see a church in our wedding pictures.

Something that made our wedding day unique was the amount of time we spent planning to make sure our guests really enjoyed the wedding and felt appreciated. Making sure everyone would really have a great time at our wedding was one of the things we thought about most.

Even from a sduling stand point we thought about what our guests would want. We knew we had to take that into consideration on our big day. We had been longing to collaborate on a piece that was centered around the love of two dancers. Josh was inspired by the emotional side of dancing. The beginning of the film centers on the isolation and subtle movement before the two lovers meet. The Branch Museum of Architecture and Design in Richmond, Virginia provided a stunning location with ceiling-high windows and beautiful marble floors.

We used all three main rooms within the museum so we could take advantage of the streaming sunlight and antique feel. For the shoot details, I used shades of dusty lilac, fig, and muted gold to create a spring color palette with a touch of black.

Alexandra Grecco had just designed a delicate lilac cami and skirt which fit into our theme perfectly and provided contrast to the flowy, ivory Elizabeth Dye gown. We focused greatly on the concept of movement: how the gowns would react as our model danced, the cascading table linens, the diagonal florals and cake pattern, and the hand-marbled paper and sheet music calligraphy envelope liner. My goal was to have every element of the shoot have a purpose and connection to our dancing couple.

I was incredibly impressed by how much attention and care all of our vendors brought to this shoot.

remarkable, amusing piece

I hope these photos and video will inspire you to attend a ballet, symphony concert, or other live performance and take pleasure in the live beauty of music, dance, and art. And they did so with one beautiful, rustic elegant affaircaptured by Michael and Carina Photography and Molly Scott Photo. The blush wedding dress and organic florals left guests speechless. But it is not only the beauty of this wedding that will inspire brides, but also the personal tous of it.

As the bride was preparing for her wedding day, the grandmother was reading the vows for the wedding video.

It is those precious moments and personal details that tell stories best. After a week and a half of seeing one another he stated I would be his girlfriend one day and like a gentlemen would wait for me to figure out we belonged together. Lucky for me he was right! I do not think I knew how lucky I was to have someone like him till the day he began looking for engagement rings.

In good Jared fashion he did lots of research on diamonds and sought out the best of the best, just to come back home more stressed than ever because of the cost for the best of the best.

He never does anything half way though, when something matters to him he gives all of himself to it. That was the moment I really realized I was the someone that mattered to him and he would dedicate himself to investing into us. I am so blessed to live this life with him and our two fur babies, Polly and Athena. Being a photographer myself I knew I wanted my day to be something I would be excited to photograph!

Soft color palette, lots of greenery, a gorgeous Roman inspired building with gorgeous architecture, urns full of flowers, and vintage tous were a must.

Michael and Carina were the first vendors I knew I needed to book! I actually told them they would be my photographers six months before I was even engaged. We lucked out finding The Scott House which is a building on my college campus and made the perfect backdrop to our wedding. Food was another big one for Jared, we ended up hiring our favorite restaurant to cater our wedding, and Alan even went off menu to prepare special requests!

Ultimately I wanted things to feel garden wedding elegant with tous of Jared and I throughout.

As a bride I realized these few things: having a wonderful and trustworthy wedding coordinator is worth the price! Do not skimp on having one; Lauren saved me so many times the weekend of our wedding and kept everyone at ease. Hire a videographer!! Do not allow the stress of planning to make you forget why you are getting married in the first place. Take time to go on no-wedding-talk date nights, because it can be stressful and sometimes you just need to go back to the root of what this day actually means.

Well, that just might win. This gorgeous hotel was the perfect backdrop for the classy and intimate wedding that Brittany and Calvin always dreamed of! The girls wore beautiful ivory, floor-length gowns with fur stoles, while the men were dressed to the nines in black tuxes. Katelyn James and I Jillian Mille are long-time friends who happened to go to college together with the groom, Calvin!

We were so honored when they asked us BOTH to photograph the wedding! I photograph both film and digital while Katelyn shoots solely digital so we truly took a hybrid approach with this wedding! I envisioned classic, elegant, formal and romantic.

We also envisioned our wedding as an opportunity to bless others, so we tried our hardest to feature our favorite local businesses and business owners. We incorporated very little color into our wedding. The bridesmaids wore champagne floor-length dresses, light rabbit fur stoles, and neutral jewelry accents of pearls, diamonds and crystals, to match the beading on my gown. We kept with neutral tous in the floral arrangements, bouquets and boutonnieres - white hydrangea, white and cream roses.

sorry, that

At the reception, we chose white linens and added accents of brass and gold for arrangement holders, signs, candles and clocks. At midnight, pearl white, clear, gold and champagne balloons fell from above the ball-lit white and ash marble dance floor. Instead of using a traditional guestbook, which we anticipated boxing up after the wedding, we selected a coffee table book featuring our honeymoon destination. I tried to deny her while trying on all the satin and lace Urban Set Bride bridal boutique in Richmond, Virginia had to offer.

While I love a good wow-factor, I tend to shy away from glam. The combination of beaded embroidered lace over a satin slip dress, not to mention the Swarovski crystals, just screamed New Years Eve. The ivory and light gold fit perfectly with our color palette, and with my Kate Spade princess heels in ivory satin.

I guided with a few favorite blooms, colors and a general design for arrangement, and she executed flawlessly. One of the hardest parts of planning your own wedding, in my opinion, is not being available day-of to direct and decorate. Andrea was an extension of myself - of all of my hopes and dreams for every floral and decorative detail of our ceremony and reception site - simple, sleek, stunning.

The cake was designed and baked by two of my bridesmaids, Siobhan Cooper and Christina Aquilina. They captured the style and flavor of our wedding in every tier - almond cake with almond buttercream on the bottom layer, princess cake with vanilla buttercream in the middle, and chocolate cake with almond buttercream on top.

Frosting designs included ribbon, pearl and star, with finishing tous of disco dust on the top layer with a few floral accents to tie it all together. Entirely edible and utterly delicious.

My advice for other brides it to not be afraid to ask for help - you are going to need it, whether you want it or not. A wedding is a union - let people come together to support and celebrate yours. A wedding is also a beautiful time of discovery, one of our favorites being how rich we are with generous and loving friends and family members. Give your loved-ones the opportunity to care for you, and witness your relationships deepen and grow.

Those relationships will carry you through one of the busiest but happiest times of your life. Get your pinning fingers ready, friends. From Kate Ignatowski Listening to my couples describe their wedding day vision, they often mention a rustic elegance. I love this idea of mixing rustic elements like worn wood and the outdoors with artful florals and sophisticated color palettes.

This was the inspiration behind creating our shoot. Tuckahoe Plantation was the perfect space because of its expansive grounds with both wild fields of grass and meticulously manicured gardens.

For the floral elements, I worked closely with Rhea of Photosynthesis Florals to create a organic arrangement of soft pinks and dark reds combined with loose greenery. We incorporated simple neutral textures in the tablescape, including a stoneware crock for the floral piece because of its worn texture and clean look. Rhea also spent a good deal of time on the ceremony arch, weaving in flowers to make it feel like they had grown on their own right there.

I think it turned out so beautifully as a backdrop for our couple exchanging handwritten vows. And I loved the feel of those vows and invitation set with the torn edge paper and delicate calligraphy.

When styling our bride, I was thrilled to photographer her in this wedding gown from Alexandra Grecco, which is the epitome of elegance with its airy, flowing fabric and plunging v. We kept her hair and makeup relatively clean and simple to create an effortless yet sophisticated look. And the delicate embroidery edged veil added a soft, romantic touch. Bright and whimsical. Aiming for an upscale take on the classic ROY G. As for DIY details, we hand-dyed the streamers as well as made and painted the paper flowers.

Tuckahoe Plantation was the perfect combination of southern charm, beauty and history for our outdoor reception. It worked out perfectly that garden week happened to fall over the wedding date so the flowers were in full bloom. I wanted the wedding to feel classic and romantic with a twist. There were many traditional elements, but several unique tous throughout. My sister and matron of honor, Lauren, helped me create a color palette for the floral arrangements and bridesmaid dresses.

The bridesmaids were able to pick any dresses they wanted that fell somewhere in the color palate. I wanted the bridesmaids to feel amazing and knew they each had their own special and fabulous style. I held a monogrammed handkerchief from Greece around my bouquet which had been given to me by my sister, Lauren.

The signature cocktail Blissful Bride consisted of blood orange soda, vodka and rosemary which tied in the pink color sme. A photo booth was created by hanging a frame from a tree and setting props on a nearby table. I gave John a bourbon-cigar bar as his wedding gift which all guests enjoyed.

The pink cake was accompanied by Dixie Donuts at the dessert table. The guest book was a vintage copy of the history of Tuckahoe Plantation. People tend to say that your wedding day feels like a blur but I distinctly remember the details and I made a point to rish the little moments.

I knew that I would feel happy and have fun, but I was blown away by feeling the happiest that I have ever been. My favorite photos include the ones of me and John at Tuckahoe Plantation before heading into the tent and with my bridesmaids in the courtyard at the chapel before the ceremony.

Styled by Natalie Wrightelements of leather, fire, stone, feathers, and greenery complimented the masculine feel of this east coast wedding. We took a trendy local hang out on the James River, looked at it in a different way, and drew from its atmosphere for our inspiration. We love how it is exposed to all earth elements with its flowing river water, worn protruding rocks, breezy shore, and fiery toned landscape.

Good news: looks like burying the bourbon works! From the Bride Favorite part of our day: Since Patrick and I opted not to do a first look, I really rished the time we spent alone taking photos after our ceremony, soaking in the day and each other.

That drive down the long Tuckahoe Plantation driveway right before sunset, surrounded by nothing but trees and pristine nature, really gave us a chance to reflect on the excitement of the day.

My other favorite part of the day was having all the girls over at our house the morning of for brunch while getting ready. We watd Gossip Girl, sipped on mimosas and relaxed in robes while being pampered with hair and make-up! Why we chose Tuckahoe Plantation: Patrick and I toured four venues and the minute we walked around Tuckahoe Plantation, we knew it was perfect. Other fun details: Patrick and I had so much fun incorporating meaningful details and celebrating small achievements during the months leading up to the wedding.

We buried our bottle of bourbon the month before the wedding at the ceremony site in the pouring rain, which was such an adventure and absolutely worth the beautiful weather we had on our wedding day!

We rented out one of our favorite local Richmond restaurants, Arcadiafor our rehearsal dinner so we could properly introduce our out-of-town friends and family to Richmond. Both employed at law firms - Brian is an attorney and I work in business development.

We actually have pretty similar upbringings - although our colleges were definitely different paths. Brian to a southern school and I went to school in the midwest. But I think we fit together well because we had an understanding about each other from the start. Its kind of crazy how similar our lives are and I think that helps us navigate all the bumps much more easily. Brian and I were introduced through a close friend who went to law school with Brian and went to college with my brother. But we were actually set up about two years after we first met.

Brian may have gotten the party started a little early that day, and ended up falling asleep in the middle of the football game sitting next to me. We found them nearby at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, where the annual daffodil show was in full bloom.

More than 1, varieties were on display, each flower standing at attention in a tubular glass vase. The visual impact of all that yellow was striking. Steering past horse farms, we headed for Goochland County's best-kept secret, the English Garden. Blazing poppies festooned the forecourt of this upscale country store and tea shop, which specializes in garden supplies and a divine afternoon tea.

Once fortified, we were ready to tackle our first plantation, Tuckahoe, a Georgian wood-frame house surrounded by a formal garden on a bluff overlooking the James River. Among its trees is a Harry Lauder's Walking Stick, with intricately twisted brans.

Nowadays, the Thompson family opens the plantation to the public by appointment. Our first stop was the Virginia Historical Society. The building has the solemn look of a mausoleum-appropriate, considering the tales told by some of the exhibits inside, including war murals, Confederate weapons, and other Civil War memorabilia.

For the rest of the day we steeped ourselves in gardens. At the next stop, Garden Designs, we eased into the subject. Co-owner and landscape designer Carrington Brown-an old friend-carries a delightful collection of antique and reproduction furniture and accessories for the garden.

A mile away is Maymont House, a acre Victorian estate that's open to the public. As luck would have it, we were a week too early to see its magnificent water cascade in action. No matter; we were more than satisfied with the cascade's graceful stone stairways fringed with Mahonia bealei plants and their gray-blue berries.

In a residential area called Windsor Farms, about three miles west of Maymont, is Virginia House, which is also open to the public. A 12th-century English priory, the house was crated up and moved to Richmond inthen reassembled here. When landscape architect Charles Gillette was asked to create its gardens, he followed the gospel as pread by two English legends: landscape designer Capability Brown and architect Sir Edwin Lutyens.

The result is a series of terraced flower beds and pools that rest on the grassy Virginia landscape like gems in a jeweler's case. Agecroft Hall, the 15th-century Tudor manor house next door, is another English import-turned-house museum with charming formal garden "rooms," growing vegetables, herbs divided by an appropriately Elizabethan wattle fenceand flowers. That night, Jesse and Sudie were able to drag us away from nature with dinner at Millie's diner in Churchill, an old factory area that's being converted into a hip new zone full of residential lofts and advertising agencies.

With its cutting-edge menu, Millie's was legendary years before the transformation began. We cked out of the Jefferson so early that even the larks were still napping, then threaded our way onto Route 5 east, connecting Richmond to Williamsburg. All are worth seeing, but our favorite is Westover. I'm a browser by temperament. I chafe at being adopted by salesladies or herded by tour guides. So when we were given the freedom to roam alone at Westover, I was in heaven.

Later, the head gardener told us about Westover's most infamous resident, William Byrd III, whose family apparently amassed thousands of acres in the early 's. In a fit of reckless abandon, Byrd gambled most of it away. In the formal gardens where the gardener was at work, the wisteria was at the height of its career.
